Exiled King Returns

From the BBC:

“Juan Carlos: Spain's ex-king to return after two-year exile”

(Spain's Former King Juan Carlos I in 2018)

Spain's former King Juan Carlos will return to the country this week after nearly two years in exile in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Spanish royal palace has confirmed. He left Spain after he was linked to an inquiry into alleged corruption. But three investigations against the 84-year-old were dropped in March, paving the way for him to return. The ex-king will arrive in Spain on Thursday and before he travels back to the UAE on Monday.

He plans to spend time with his family in Sanxenxo, in north-west Spain, and will also see his son King Felipe VI in the capital Madrid. The visit is part of his "desire to visit his family and friends regularly in Spain" in a "private" setting, the palace statement said. The former king's return comes after he sent a letter to his son in March in which he told him he was looking to make a "timely" return to Spain after the country's attorney general's office shelved the investigations against him. When the letter was issued in March, the Spanish government said Juan Carlos owed the Spanish public an explanation for his economic affairs.

Juan Carlos abdicated in 2014 after close to 40 years in power and handed power to his son Felipe. His decision to give up the throne came after a corruption investigation involving his daughter's husband and a controversial elephant hunting trip the monarch took during Spain's financial crisis. In June 2020, Spain's Supreme Court launched an investigation into Juan Carlos's alleged involvement in a high-speed rail contract in Saudi Arabia. He denied any wrongdoing and insisted he was available if prosecutors needed to interview him. But in August of that year, he travelled to the UAE where he has been living since. The forthcoming visit has been criticised by the far-left Podemos party, which is part of the coalition government.

^ Spain doesn’t seem to like to deal with its past.

First they made the 1977 Amnesty Law that made it illegal to go after anyone for any of the crimes committed during Franco’s Dictatorship (1939-1975.) That includes going after those that ran Franco’s 300 Concentration Camps where up to 1 Million Spaniards (Republicans, Gypsies, Jews, Galician Nationalists, Moroccan Nationalists, Homosexuals, Catalan Nationalists, etc.) were kept from 1936-1947.

It includes the crimes committed during the White Terror from 1936-1945 where 200,000 People were killed through Politicide, Mass Murder, Forced Labor, Human Experimentation, War Rape and Cultural Genocide. It doesn’t include those directly killed by the fighting from the Civil War.

There’s a reason Franco allied himself with Hitler during the Spanish Civil War (and only the threat of a British Invasion kept him from continuing that allegiance during World War 2.)

Franco used Mass Murder to deal with anyone who he didn’t like. There are 2,000 known Mass Graves throughout Spain directly linked to him and his minions.

The 1977 Amnesty Pact was part of the Pact of Forgetting that the Spanish Government and all the Political Parties there agreed to after Franco’s Death to whitewash their history of any crimes. It is still in force today.

Franco’s body wasn’t removed from its place on honor at the Valle de los Caídos until 2019 (44 years after he died) and even though 35% of Spaniards thought he should continue to be honored.

Now, Spain doesn’t want to deal with its corrupt Former King Juan Carlos I. They have dropped all charges against him – not because he went to court to fight them and won, but because he fled Spain and went to the United Arab Emirates for the past 2 years.

Juan Carlos I was groomed by Franco himself to be his Successor and so its not really surprising that h turned out to not be a good Man or King. He abdicated in 2014 after several scandals directly involving him came to light: an elephant-hunting trip to Botswana in 2012, an embezzlement scandal involving his daughter Cristina, and her husband Iñaki Urdangarin in 2014.

Even after he abdicated the scandals continued: He received kick-backs from a 2020 Saudi Arabian Rail Deal, tax offenses from 2016-2018 (he paid 678,393.72 Euros to the Spanish Tax Agency in 2020 for having defrauded the Spanish Government.)  New tax offences in 2021 with the Zagatka Foundation (he paid another 4 Million Euros to the Spanish Tax Agency for again having defrauded the Spanish Government.)

On top of all this he is the alleged father of Alberto Solà Jimenez, born in Barcelona in 1956, also of a Woman born in Catalonia in 1964, and of Ingrid Sartiau, a Belgian Woman born in 1966 who has filed a paternity suit, but complete Sovereign Immunity prevented that suit prior to his abdication.

Spain seems to want to be ostriches with their heads in the sand rather than deal with the Mass Murder, Concentration Camps, and Oppression of Franco and the complete lack of Integrity and fraud of its Former King.  ^
