From You’re Probably a Military Brat If..’s Facebook:
AFN TV expands to 3 channels - in
November 1996. Today, there are 10 TV channels and 11+ radio stations available
via a decoder box that people can buy or rent.
^ Back in my day AFN was only 1
Channel. We had British Sky TV for a short time (until the Brits shut it down)
and Cartoon Network where you could watch some shows in English depending on
the time. Now they have AFN Sports 1, AFN Prime Atlantic, AFN Spectrum, AFN
Prime Pacific, AFN News, AFN Sports 2, AFN Program Guide, DOD News, AFN Family
and AFN Sports HD.
It was always annoying to me
(when I was a kid) when I heard Adults in the States complain that they only
had 3 TV Channels when they were younger. I would tell them I only had 1 and
they didn’t believe me.
I do miss all the Public Service
Announcements - since they weren’t
allowed to have Commercials. How else am I supposed to know not to wear a
Cowboy hat, big belt buckle and not to speak with a thick Southern accent
screaming at the top of my lungs when
walking down a crowded European Street – like Yosemite Sam? (The PSA was to
blend in and be an “Ambassador for the United States.”)
It was interesting to learn the
different acts of valor from the different Wars and which Heritage Month it
currently was. ^
