Grigoriy Eduardovich Dobrygin (Russian: Григорий Эдуардович Добрыгин) was born in the Soviet Closed City of  Vilyuchinsk on Kamchatka, Russian SSR, Soviet Union (the Pacific Far East) on February 17, 1986.

His Father, a Soviet Naval Captain, worked at the Rybachy Nuclear Submarine Base and his Mother was a Professional Ballerina from Moscow.

Grigoriy has said his Parents were the “ideal Soviet Match of Strength and Culture.”

In 1996 his Family returned to Moscow, when he was 10 years old, in order for him to study at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography in the Bolshoi Theatre.

His first Onstage Role for the Bolshoi was in “The Nutcracker” when he was 12.

He also attended the “Sputnik”  Sports School and played Soccer.

After his Father had a Religious Conversion to Seventh-day Adventism and became a Preacher, Grigoriy quit the Academy at 17, one year prior to Graduation.

 He left Moscow and enrolled at Zaoksky Adventist University in Tula.

After two years at Zaoksky, Grigoriy moved back to Moscow to study Acting at the Moscow Art Theater School where he left after 1 year and enrolled at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS) to study Directing. He graduated in 2010.

While still a Student, Grigoriy was cast as Dima Maykov in Producer Timur Bekmambetov's “Black Lightning”  (2009), the first Russian-Language Blockbuster Superhero Film.

He is the Winner of numerous Film Awards, including the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival (2010), the White Elephant Award (2010) and the Golden Eagle Special Award (2011.)

He made his Directorial Debut with the comedic short “Treason” in 2013.

Grigoriy’s first English-Language Movie was “A Most Wanted Man” (2014), an adaption of a John le Carré Novel where he co-starred with Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Grigoriy’s full-length Directorial Debut “Sheena 667” was presented in 2019 in the main competition program of the Rotterdam Film Festival.

Grigoriy Dobrygin is an Observant Seventh-day Adventist; he said that his Film Contracts state that he will not drink alcohol, smoke or be in a graphic sex scene on film, nor will he work on Saturdays.

 He also starred in “How I Ended My Summer”, “4 Days In May”, “Black Sea” and “Mathilde.”
