80 years ago today (June 6, 1944)
160,000 Allied Soldiers (Americans, Brits, Canadians, Free French, Free Dutch,
Free Poles, etc.) landed in German-Occupied France. They were supported by
195,700 Allied Naval Sailors.
It was the largest Seaborne
Invasion in World History.
Along with the Seaborne Troops
13,100 Americans parachuted behind Enemy Lines in German-Occupied France on
June 6th.
4,414 Allied Soldiers died on
D-Day alone (1,465 Americans; 335 Canadians; 1,449 British and the rest from
the other different Allied Countries.)
Another 5,586 Allied Soldiers
were wounded on June 6, 1944.
3,000 French Civilians were
killed on D-Day.
June 6, 1944 started the
Liberation of Western Europe from German Occupation.
