This Thursday (June 6th) is the
80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
Because of that I'm watching
"The Longest Day."
"The Longest Day" is a
1962 Film based on a book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan.
It is a really great Film that I
have been watching since I was little.
I remember watching it on AFN
when I lived in Germany in 1994 for the 50th Anniversary of the Landings.
It shows the different sides of
the D-Day Landings with the Americans (played by: Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum,
John Wayne, Richard Beymer, Robert Wagner, etc.) the British (played by: Peter
Lawford, etc.) the French (played by: Jean Servais, Arletty, etc.) and the
Germans (played by: Gert Fröbe, Werner Hinz, etc.)
It had 3 different Directors:
For the British & French
Scenes: Ken Annakin
For the American Scenes: Andrew Marton
For the German Scenes: Bernhard
Wicki
It was filmed in Normandy.
It has a Budget of $10 Million US
Dollars ($101 Million Dollars in 2024.)
It earned $50 Million Dollars
($519 Million Dollars in 2024.)
It also gave us quotes like: “Jean
a de longues moustaches” (“Jean has a long moustache.”)
