Coast Guard Day
234 years ago today (August 4,
1790) the United States Coast Guard was created.
From 1790-1894 it was known as
the U.S. Revenue-Marine.
From 1894 -1915 it was known as
the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service.
Since 1915 it has been known as
the US Coast Guard.
In Peacetime the US Coast Guard
operates under the US Department of Homeland Security, but during Wartime it
operates under the US Navy.
