80: Operation Dragoon
80 years ago today (August 15,
1944) the Allied launched Operation Dragoon.
151,000 Allied Troops (Americans,
Brits, Free French and Canadians) landed in southern France to open a Second
Front in German-Occupied France after the D-Day Landings in northern France on
June 6, 1944.
The Invasion was a success and
the Allies were able to liberate southern France in 4 weeks.
The Allies suffered 25,574
Casualties in the Invasion.
7,301 Americans were killed and
8,273 Americans were wounded.
