I went to the Highland Games today. It was the second time I have gone, but the first time in about a Decade. It was a fun time. The weather was very sunny and started out chilly, but quickly got warm. It was very crowed (the signs all said today was Sold Out.)
We took a Shuttle Bus from the
Parking Lot to the Festival. The Line to get in moved very quickly. We walked
around and looked at the things going on on the side we entered. We sat down on
some bleachers and waited for some kind of Competition to begin – where People
in Kilts with large batons marched up and down. You could hear and understand
the Scottish Announcer, but not the American Announcer.
We then walked throughout the
Festival looking at the Vendors, the different Clans and the different
activities going on. We heard some bagpipes, some folk music, saw some folk
dancing, saw a demonstration on how Ancient Scots lived and then ate Lunch (I
had Bangers and Mash and Fried Dough.) We managed to beat the long lines and
even found a table to sit at.
After Lunch, we went to the
Opening Ceremony (which is odd to have since the Festival had been going on for
2 ½ hours.) They had the March of the Clans. Then a bunch of different Bagpipe
Groups played. The British Consul-General of Boston gave a speech and held a Moment
of Silence for the Late Queen Elizabeth II (Queen of the UK and Queen of
Canada.) Then a Man sang “God Save The King” (the British National Anthem and
the Royal Anthem of Canada), then “O Canada” (the Canadian National Anthem) and
lastly “The Star Spangled Banner” (the American National Anthem.)
We had been at the Festival for 4 hours and while it was fun we were tired and had also seen everything so we left. All-in-all it was a really fun time.
