Canada Day Cancelled

“Get ready for a virtual Canada Day party this year”

With gatherings banned due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's Canada Day celebrations will take place online, the federal government announced Friday. Canadian Heritage Minister Stephen Guilbeault said his department is working with artists to create a virtual show on July 1. "Together, in a virtual environment, we will celebrate our strength and resilience," Guilbeault said in a news release. More details about the party, and how Canadians can participate, will be released soon. The lineup for the Canada Day show is normally released about a month before July 1. The event had already been moved from Parliament Hill because of ongoing construction on Centre Block.

^ I think it’s wrong for the Canadian Federal Government to decide that Canada Day is cancelled and will only be through virtual means this year. It is only April and Canada Day isn’t until July 1st. Covid-19 has been changing hour-by-hour and to decide something months in advance isn’t very smart. I also don’t believe that people will accept not being able to go outside and enjoy life by July when they are already getting restless and it’s been about a month in lockdowns and stay-at-home orders. I think it will be the same if the US Federal Government tried to cancel July 4th celebrations and turn them virtual. I am not talking about the crazy militia-members that are already touting their guns out in public right now. I am talking about ordinary Canadians and Americans that are staying at home right now. It is one thing to stay home and separate from everything when thousands upon thousands of people are dying, but once that number drops and levels out then people will not accept restrictive isolation measures and will want to go outside and live life again. I think that by the Summer people (Canadians, Americans and Europeans) will be able to go outside again as long as they continue to practice social distancing from strangers. Of course I am not an expert or Doctor, but from what I currently see around the world it seems like the correct guess to make right now. As long as Covid-19 levels out and social distancing is kept then most of the world can reopen by the Summer. ^
