From the Kabul Small Animal Rescue’s Facebook:
“Art”
I would like to tie a bow between
two concepts that guide us as an organization: first, that the end of life is
meaningful and worthy of time and effort and coin; and second, that in the
chaos and violent whirlwind of this world, we are responsible for the lives in
our care, to give them the very best we possibly can. In the enduring words of
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "you become responsible, forever, for what you
have tamed."
In the full spirit of these
guiding principles, we put forward our plea for this incredible dog. Art, to
put it bluntly, is older than dirt. We don't know which company originally
owned him, and requests for information from most security firms here have been
brushed off. The IEA authorities at the government kennels voiced compassion for
him together with our own veterinarians in the spring of this year when he came
under our umbrella, and he has lived at the KSAR shelter for several months
now. But he is struggling. He's a big boy, and his hips are strong, but his
spine is partially fused and he has serious nerve damage. Some therapies that
might help him--acupuncture, cold laser therapy, hydrotherapy--are not
available here, nor are advanced diagnostics. We do not presume to think he
will recover. We do believe that he has the chance for months or possibly even
years of comfort and pampering by the loving and knowledgeable adopters that
want to welcome him home, if we can move him to the US. To do so comfortably,
he will need a custom built and quite large wooden crate, and would need to
take a direct flight from Kabul to Dubai, then following a long layover and vet
check, a direct flight to JFK where our partners at Mission K9 Rescue would
facilitate a comfortable trip to his retirement home down south. His paperwork
and blood work are complete and ready to go--we are waiting only on the funds
to send him.
It is easy to look at these
expenses and calculate what else could be done with them, what such a handsome
fee could be used for, but I ask you not to do that. This is the life in front
of you. We do not know his history, only that he spent a decade, likely longer,
protecting all of us here while sheltered in minimal conditions. He needs so
much more than we can give him, but with your help, we can together give him
the lush last days his old body and sweet soul so richly deserve.
^ I really hope he gets the care
he needs and the good life he deserves. Please click on the link above to help. Thank you. ^
