Motherland Or Fatherland?

Friend: “How can there be Mother Russia as well as ‘Defenders of the Fatherland Day?’ Is Russia Male or Female?”

Me: Maybe Russia is a Single-Parent that has to be both Mom (Female) and Dad (Male.)

In the Russian Language, the concept of Motherland is rendered by two terms: "родина" (tr. rodina), literally, "place of birth" and "отчизна" (tr. otchizna), literally "Fatherland".

You say“Mother Russia” (“Матушка Россия”) and “Mother Motherland” (“Родина-мать”) and “Defender of the Fatherland Day” (“День защитника Отечества.”)

So maybe Russia is Gender-Confused and is both Male and Female?

Have a Russian explain it to you!

(Just don't say it inside Russia because since 2013 it is illegal to promote "non-traditional" relationships like Homosexuality, a man doing something a woman traditionally does, a woman doing something a man traditionally does, single parenting, etc. You don't want to end-up in a Russian Forced Labor Penal Colony  - yes those are still a thing in Russia - we once called them Gulags.")
