From USA Today:
“More than
half of Americans believe Trump should be removed before Jan. 20, according to
poll”
After riots at
the U.S. Capitol, a majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump should
be removed from office before his term ends on Jan. 20, according to a new
poll. The poll, published Sunday by ABC News/Ipsos, found that 56% of
respondents support his removal prior to Inauguration Day and 67% blame Trump
for the attack on Jan. 6, which forced lawmakers to flee their chambers and
left five dead. The incident followed Trump's "Save America Rally" in
Washington, where he urged the crowd to march to the Capitol to demonstrate
against Congress as they counted votes in the Electoral College and certified
Joe Biden as the President-elect. "We're
going to walk down to the Capitol," he said. "You'll never take back
our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong.
"If you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country
anymore," he told supporters later in the speech. After the riots began,
it took nearly an hour before Trump tweeted "asking for everyone at the
U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful." Later that night, he also told
protesters that he loved them and thinks they are "very special." President
Donald Trump could face a second impeachment trial after the riot at the
Capitol.
A president can
be removed from office by his vice president and a majority of the Cabinet, via
the 25th Amendment, or by Congress, via impeachment proceedings. In the
aftermath of Jan. 6, Democrats and some Republicans have expressed support for
both options. House Democrats will
introduce a resolution on Monday calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke
the 25th Amendment. Pelosi told Democrats on Sunday that if Pence does not act
after 24 hours, they will introduce articles of impeachment against Trump .
They accuse him of having "gravely endangered the security" of the
U.S. and its institutions. It would make him the first president to ever be
impeached twice. Some Republican lawmakers have indicated that they will
support impeachment.
But in the
poll, support for removal was nearly split on party lines – 94% of Democrats
and 58% of independents said they wanted it. Just 13% of Republicans said the
same. Sixty-one percent of Republicans
said they believe Trump did nothing wrong. Another third just don't think his
removal is worth the effort, given that his term is about to end. It also found
that more Americans trust Biden to "safeguard democracy" than Trump,
at 53% and 30%, respectively. The poll
of 570 adults was conducted Jan. 8-9 with a margin of error of plus or minus
4.7 percentage points
^ I believe
Trump should resign or be removed from office for inciting the Coup against the
US Federal Government. With that said I don’t believe he will resign and I don’t
think a second Impeachment will go through both Houses of Congress in the 9
days before Biden becomes President. I also don’t think Pence will invoke the
25th Amendment to remove Trump immediately because he is still one
of his lackey’s. I can only hope that Trump does not do anything else to endanger
our country in these last 9 days. ^
