It's official: after 12 years I have just cancelled my Netflix DVD-Mail Service. I am keeping my Netflix Streaming Service though.
When I moved to
my Mountain in March 2009 and saw that we weren't able to Stream anything
(because of the poor Satellite Internet available here at the time - we
couldn't Download much, couldn't Stream anything and it would go out completely
if it rained) I started getting DVDs from Netflix by mail (and having to drive
to my mailbox 3 Streets away to get them.)
At first the
local Netflix DVD supplier was 1 1/2 hours away and the DVDs would take 1 day
to get to me.
In 2014, the local Netflix supplier moved 3
hours from me and the DVDs would take 2 days to get to me.
In 2017, the
local Netflix DVD supplier moved to Trenton, New Jersey and the DVD would take
5-7 days to get to me and many also started coming from other places further
away (GA, TX and CA.)
Not only did
the DVDs take so long to get to me, but Netflix started not having any good
DVDs. My Queue went from 123 DVD titles to 8 overnight because Netflix DVD no
longer had them or they were only available by Netflix Streaming.
In 2017, we
were finally able to upgrade our Internet (when our Telephone Company - the
only Telephone Company available in my area -
was sold to another company and they started making repairs to their
systems.)
We quickly
moved to having our main Internet come through the Telephone line at a much
faster speed (allowing us to Stream for the first time) and still have our
Satellite Internet as our back-up Internet
- for when the regular Internet goes out, as it has in the past (along
with our landline telephone - cell phones have never worked in my area.)
Last week I
added Roku to my TV (with my Sister's help over the phone) and can now watch
all my Streaming Services on my TV instead of only on my I-Pad. So not only can
I watch Netflix Streaming, but also Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu
and Tubi.
While it is a
little sad that I no longer have the Netflix DVD Service, after 12 long years,
it is nice to know I have a better system in-place that allows me to see more
TV Shows and Movies than ever before.
