Gandzasar

100,514 Ethnic Armenians have fled Nagoro-Karabakh for Armenia since Azerbaijan took full control of the Territory on September 20, 2023.

The only remaining people left there are Ethnic Azeris, the Azeri Military and 1,910 Russian Peacekeepers.

Ethnic Armenians had lived in Nagoro-Karabakh since the 7th Century BC and 98.7% of the Population were Armenian as well as Christian.

As of October 1, 2023, there are no more Ethnic Armenians and no more Openly-Practicing Christians living there (just as there have been no more Ethnic Armenians living in Azerbaijan since Anti-Armenian Pogroms there in 1994.)

Azerbaijan has carried out Ethnic-Cleaning of the Armenian People and the Christian Religion in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Gandzasar (Armenian: Գանձասար), an Armenian Orthodox Christian Monastery built in 1240.

It was closed by the Soviet Communists from 1930-1989, but not damaged.

It was attacked by Soviet Special Forces in 1991 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Parts of the Monastery were destroyed by the Azeris in August 1992 and again in January 1993 – wounded a Priest.

It was restored in 2002.

From 2020 to September 2023 the Monastery was protected from the Azeris by Russian Peacekeepers.

Since September 20, 2023 the Monastery has been completely occupied by Azerbaijan. The Azeris call it "Ganjasar" (Azerbaijani: Gəncəsər) and do not allow the use of Armenian when referring to it. Instead they call it a "Caucasian Albanian Temple.”

This is just one example of the many Armenian Christian Churches and Monasteries in Nagorno-Karabakh.
