Here's a little about my Trip to New York:
We went there on October 19th (which was my
Great-Aunt’s 94th Birthday.)
While there we also celebrated my Grandmother’s 97th
Birthday (which was on October 4th.)
My Great-Aunt had several Birthday Parties.
The day before she was thrown a Party by her Friends at the
Retirement Condo. she lived in for many years.
Then on her actual Birthday she was given a Mini-Party (along
with my Grandmother) by my Uncle, my Aunt, my Dad and Myself.) They loved their
Presents and their Cards.
Then there was a Surprise (even for us) Party, also on
Thursday, thrown by some of their High School Friends and their Family. My
Grandmother graduated High School in 1943 and my Great-Aunt graduated High
School in 1946 and they were excited to see some old Friends.
We all had a good and fun time.
While in New York I noticed it’s near impossible to get bags
of any kind (not just the plastic kind, but paper bags and other kinds of
bags.)
I thought it was funny that the Flower Department at Price
Chopper (or as the New Yorkers now call it Market 32) they had an abundance of
plastic wrap and plastic bags to wrap the Flowers in, but looked at me funny
when I asked for any kind of bag (plastic or not) so the Flowers wouldn’t drip water
everywhere after coming out of the display vases.
I also liked that in New York you are treated like a criminal
when you go to Pharmacy and try and buy the real Sudafed, but you can easily
buy Recreational Marijuana – with much less hassle. Note: Recreational Marijuana
is still illegal where I live.
You feel like you need to go to a back alleyway to get a bag
from Dealer while you can walk in anywhere and get Drugs out in the open.
I also enjoyed having to drive through 8 Traffic Circles in a
1 mile span of road to get into and out of my hotel. Whomever planned that was
probably on Marijuana – when they couldn’t buy Sudafed.
Also, in New York most of the Food Places gave you a discount
if you paid in cash and charged you more if you paid by card - had I known I would have brough more cash.
That’s on top of the high New York Sales Tax (both the State Sales Tax and the
Local Sales Tax.)
Where I live we don’t charge you more for the same product
whether you pay by card or in cash and we don’t have Sales Tax (Local or State)
or Income Tax for that matter.
I did like bringing my Soda Cans and Plastic Bottles from my
State (where they don’t charge you a deposit per Can/Bottle) and redeeming them
in New York for 5 cents each – made a little extra money (to offset the extra
charge to use a card to pay.)
I had a nice time catching-up with some of my High School
Friends while in New York. It’s good to know I was once a carefree and fun guy.
It was nice to be in a place where Cell Phones actually work
(they have never worked in my Town and there’s spotty service in other nearby
towns - because of our Mountains.)
I didn’t care for all the traffic everywhere we went to in
New York though. My traffic here consists of some Bears, Wild Turkeys, Moose, Bobcats,
Deer and Chickens.
All-in-all it was great to catch-up in-person with Friends
and Family (especially my Grandmother and my Great-Aunt.)
