Shevchenko In Apples

In Odessa, (Ukraine) School Children created a portrait of Taras Shevchenko from apples. It took over 7,000 apples.

Portrait area is 26,309 square feet.

The installation was included in the Book of Records of Ukraine.

Taras Shevchenko fought for Ukraine’s Independence from the Russians in the 1800s and these Ukrainian School Children (and all of Ukraine) are fighting the Russians for their Independence today.

Note: Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861) was a Ukrainian Poet, Writer, Artist, Public and Political Figure, Folklorist and Ethnographer.

His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian Literature and, to a large extent, the Modern Ukrainian Language.

He was a Fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts.

Shevchenko was convicted in 1847 of explicitly promoting the independence of Ukraine, writing poems in the Ukrainian Language and ridiculing members of the Russian Imperial House.
