“Special Olympics New Hampshire
asking for volunteers for 50th Summer Games”
Special Olympics New Hampshire’s
50th Summer Games are less than a week away and organizers need volunteer help.
About 1,000 athletes will compete next Friday and Saturday at the University of
New Hampshire in Durham and more than 1,200 volunteers are needed. "We are
so excited because it is our 50th. It's going to be a big event,” said Jim
Foster, volunteer coordinator for Special Olympics NH. "Placing out cones
for traffic, making sure people cross the street correctly, make sure that
people get out of the way for athletes to get on the field, making sure that
all the volunteers have their places to be." Athletes will be competing in track and field,
swimming, bocce, equestrian, powerlifting and the unified sprint triathlon.
Some volunteers may help in those venues, whether it's keeping score or time or
escorting the athletes to the awards ceremony. "There's so many different
things that take place during these games that most people don't see. It's the
small things that go on behind the scenes,” Foster said. That includes cheering
on the gifted athletes. "We want our athletes to come out of this
understanding that, you know, we're in it with them," Foster said. To learn how you can help, visit sonh.org and

National and the States’ organizations) are important in helping both the disabled
and non-disabled and deserve all the help (volunteering, donating, etc.) they
can get. For more information on the NH Special Olympics go to their website at the following link: http://www.sonh.org/ ^
