From WMUR:
More than 100 dogs, puppies seized from Bradford home
More than 100 dogs, about half of them puppies, have been
seized from a Bradford home as part of a cruelty investigation, officials said.
Officials said the owner surrendered the dogs, which means they will be
available for adoption once they're healthy, likely within the next few weeks. "The
police department had been investigating them for some time," said Karen
Moran, president of the board of the Pope Memorial Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals in Concord. Officials said 52 adult dogs and 53 puppies,
mostly golden retrievers and Labrador mixes, were removed from the Bradford
home. Their living conditions were described as squalid, and some of the
animals had untreated medical conditions. Some of the dogs are at the Humane
Society for Greater Nashua, though the majority remain at Pope Memorial. Because of the large influx of dogs, Pope
Memorial had to convert a large room and quickly build enough kennels to house
all of the new rescues. "This room we're standing in here now normally
functions as a conference room. We hold camp here," Moran said. "We
have pregnant dogs here. We expect one of our dogs to be having a litter within
the next two to three days." Moran said the dogs are being prepared for
new homes. "We take care of the pets and animals that are abandoned,
homeless, neglected and rehome them so they can have happy lives, and we do
give them medical treatment," Moran said. "We spay and neuter. We do
behavioral assessment, and we exist to help the community and the animals come
together." An investigation is ongoing, and Bradford police said they will
determine if any criminal charges will be filed.
^ This is just plain disgusting. It is one of those times I
wish we had an “eye for an eye” justice system. I also wished the law in most places treated dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, fish, etc. as living creatures and not simply as property. I hope all of these dogs get the care they deserve and then get adopted out to good homes. ^
