Russia was defeated today in its bid to regain a seat in the UN's
premiere Human Rights Body by a significant majority: Bulgaria received 160
votes. Albania received 123 votes. Russia:
ONLY 83 votes.
The General Assembly elected 15 new Members of the Human
Rights Council. Russia was competing against Albania and Bulgaria for two seats
on the Geneva-based Human Rights Council representing the East European Regional
Group.
Russia was kicked-out of the Human Rights Council after its
Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the War Crimes it has committed there.
