Russia Loses

Russia was defeated today in its bid to regain a seat in the UN's premiere Human Rights Body by a significant majority: Bulgaria received 160 votes.  Albania received 123 votes. Russia: ONLY 83 votes.

The General Assembly elected 15 new Members of the Human Rights Council. Russia was competing against Albania and Bulgaria for two seats on the Geneva-based Human Rights Council representing the East European Regional Group.

Russia was kicked-out of the Human Rights Council after its Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the War Crimes it has committed there.
