McCarthy Out

In January 2023 it took 15 Voting Rounds to elect Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

It was the longest Rounds of Voting for a Speaker in the House.

He was ousted today: 216 votes to 210.

It is the first time in history that Representatives have chosen to remove their Speaker from office.

Now the House has to waste time voting (hopefully not another 15 times) to find a new Speaker before any new business  - like keeping the Federal Government open past November 17th - can be done.
