Policing

The police in my town just  hired an administrative assistant and now has "office hours" Tuesdays for 6 hours and Wednesdays for 6 hours. Yet they still don't have a full-time police force or presence so if you need them and call you will probably still get transferred to the State Police (an hour away.) I don't understand why my town doesn't contract with the near-by town (where our gas stations, market and Post Office are) for policing when our police force isn't available like they do for their ambulance service.
