80 years ago today (April 12, 1945) Canadian Forces liberated the Westerbork Transit Camp in the Netherlands.
876 Inmates were liberated by the
Canadians in Westerbork.

It is the Camp Anne Frank was
sent to after being arrested while Hiding and before being sent to the
Auschwitz Death Camp.
Every Tuesday Cattle Cars arrived
in Westerbork and sent Men, Women and Children to either the Auschwitz Death Camp
or the Sobibor Death Camp both in German-Occupied Poland.
97,776 Jewish Men, Women and Children
were deported to their deaths from July 1942 to September 1944.
Less than 5,000 of the 97,776
deported from Westerbork survived the War,
Anne Frank and her Family were
deported on the last Cattle Car Train to leave Westerbork for Auschwitz on
September 4, 1944.
The National Westerbork Memorial
was unveiled at the site by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands on May 4, 1970.
