Today is Unification Act Day in Ukraine.
The Unification Act (Akt Zluky -
Акт Злуки) was an Agreement signed on January 22, 1919 by the Ukrainian
People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic on St. Sophia Square
in Kyiv.
Since 1999, the Day of Unity of
Ukraine (Den Sobornosti - День Соборності України) is celebrated every year on
January 22 to mark the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
This Agreement may be 106 years
old, but it holds a lot more meaning today than in previous years (because of
Russia’s War and Occupation in Ukraine.)
