With Veterans' Day (in the US)
and Remembrance Day/Le jour du Souvenir (in Canada, the UK, Australia, New
Zealand and other Commonwealth Countries) next week (November 11th) it's good
to see these Poppies going up everywhere in the Commonwealth with the money
raised being given to help Veterans.
The Poppy (Coquelicot in French)
is used throughout the Commonwealth because of the 1915 Poem: "In Flanders
Fields" by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.
They aren't really used in the US
because we didn't enter World War 1 until 1917 and so didn't fight in Flanders
Field, Belgium.
These are in Canada.
