Good Packs

From Greater Good’s Website:

“Good Packs”

Many vets experiencing homelessness often have to choose between leaving their pet behind to seek shelter or staying in the cold because most shelters do not allow pets.

In any given night, there are 17 out of every 10,000 people in America, who are experiencing homelessness. When you give today, you are putting a Good Pack full of essentials in the hands of someone without the security of a home.

That’s why this Veteran’s Day, we’re offering our Good Packs to unhoused veterans in communities with a high veteran poverty rate. Just $50 sends a Good Pack to both a veteran and their pet. The heroes of our country fought for you; this Veteran’s Day, you can fight for them by providing food and supplies.

Good Packs, a program of Greater Good Charities, provides survival and comfort supplies to those in times of crisis, with modular subpacks to serve pets, children, disaster victims, military veterans, and food insecure families. Recipients of Good Packs include homeless or imminently homeless people and their pets, including refugees, military veterans, and victims of domestic violence and natural disasters.

Every night, thousands of homeless people forgo shelter to preserve their bond with a cherished dog or other pet. A shortage of pet-friendly shelters means individuals dedicated to remaining with their beloved pets are often forced to choose between seeking shelter or staying with their animal companions.

Good Packs aims to help these people and their pets with necessary supplies and support.

Of the over 18 million Veterans in the US today, 1 in 3 struggle with post-combat mental health issues (PTSD). Unfortunately, PTSD is a common issue for veterans but human-animal interactions have a fantastic effect on self-perceived human welfare and quality of life.

But it’s not easy for our veterans to find a service dog. Service dog placement statistics show that only 1% of veteran applications for service dogs receive approval. This is due to the massive cost of training a service dog, which, combined with food, workshops, crates, beds, and toy expenses, can reach upwards of $30,000!

The security of basic comfort items and nutritious meals can help bridge the gap for our veterans and their pets as they seek to secure permanent housing. Your gift to Greater Good Charities will help our Good Packs program, and provide other support to people and pets across the country in need. You can give a Good Pack today for just $50.

Greater Good Charities has long supported both working and therapy dogs, which is why we’ve developed a Good Packs supplemental pack for Veterans with therapy dogs.

Along with food, we will provide Good Packs that include basic survival supplies in functional backpacks to those facing homelessness, including veterans. These Good Packs are filled with supplies for the therapy pets of veterans, including a bed, blanket, wet dog food, food/water bowl, water bottle, bandana, toys, and treats for the therapy pup.

They fought for us—let’s fight for them. This Veterans Day, join Greater Good Charities in honoring our country’s veterans by providing Good Packs full of essential items and nutritious food to those in need. Just $50 can send a Good Pack to a veteran and their therapy pet! Your donation will have a real impact for veterans in need.

^ This program helps Veterans, Animals, the Homeless and Homeless Veterans with Animals. I sent a Good Pack and hope others will too. ^
