Elder Scams

I called my Great-Aunt  today as I do every week. She told me that the Retirement Condo she lives in in  New York tried to charge her $126 extra for "Visitors' Meals" for the last month. No visitors have been allowed into the Condo side since last March. She complained and got it removed.

This is part of a growing scam in: Retirement Condos, Retirement Communities, Assisted Living and in Nursing Homes across the country. Not only are they the hardest hit by Covid-19 infections and deaths, but now these scams by the places that are supposed to take care of them.

The Nursing Home side, where my Grandmother lives, is set to allow a few visitors to come - staying outside - soon. My Great-Aunt can't wait as she used to visit her Sister every day and hasn't been allowed to since last March.

Bottom-Line: Please check in on the elderly and the disabled (family, friends, neighbors and strangers) to make sure they are safe, healthy and not being scammed. I live 2 States away and so can't go in person, but I call and send regular letters (I stopped sending e-mails after they stopped using their computers.)
