Mud Season!
^It's Mud Season on my Mountain! Driving in mud (especially up and down a mountain) can be just as dangerous as driving on ice even with 4WD. I had never heard of Mud Season until I moved to New England - where the majority of the roads are made of dirt (dirt plus water from melting snow = Mud Season.) In March and April the constant battle between melting snow causing the mud, the refreezing of the ruts at night and the major nor'easters that typically bring around 1 foot of new snow means we deal with a lot up here. A report for Northern New England States found: Mud season can be expensive for towns due to the damage done to dirt roads. The cost of improving Mud Season road conditions can be as much as US$140,000 per mile. The picture is a meme I found, but closely resembles our local roads right now (with more snow though.) ^
