From USA Today:
"Blind dog gets his own 'seeing eye' dog. Excuse us, we can't see through happy tear"
Charlie was doing fine. The blind 11-year-old Golden Retriever didn't want an upstart puppy named Maverick moving in. But his family, Adam and Chelsea Stipe, thought that after losing one eye to glaucoma in 2016 and another a year later, Charlie could use some help. Maverick, a 4-month-old, became Charlie's "seeing eye" dog. Before long they were fast friends, playing together and eventually Charlie even shared his pillow with Maverick. The friendship is winning the internet as the dogs' Instagram account, only started a week ago, is now at 79,000 followers. The North Carolina couple introduced Maverick to Charlie in January, according to "Today." The older dog's initial reluctance gave way to tenderness as the puppy walks close to him and makes sure he can find his misplaced toys. Stipe recently welcomed a new baby into the family. She said she didn't hesitate to get a new companion for Charlie that her new baby can grow up with. "For us it was a no-brainer: Empty our retirement plan to care for this dog because he makes us happy," she told the NBC affiliate.
^ This is such a cute and cool story (while also sad at the same time.) ^
