CO's Accesibile Fun

From Colorado Our Community Now:
"Colorado’s Best Activities for People with Disabilities"

Here are Some Ideas!

Disabilities vary in severity and form. Some you can see, others are less apparent. Some are lifelong, others are temporary. Regardless, those who are challenged by them still want (and deserve) to live life to the fullest. So I wanted to pass along a few ideas I’ve come across when planning to do things with my friends who need a minor adjustment to the plan.

Wilderness on Wheels
Grant, CO
Think getting deep into nature is a no-go? Think again. For over 30 years, Wilderness on Wheels has been a place to access nature for those of all abilities. Their mile-long boardwalk rises up to 9,000 ft. and features places to grill, camp, and fish. Check them out online and contact them for camping!

Overdrive Raceway
Colorado Springs, CO
Owner/operator Jim Mundle is a double-amputee himself, so he made a special investment in go-karts that can be operated solely with hand controls (don’t worry they’re just as fast, just as fun, and it’s no sweat to request a hand control kart). He’s also been known to make arrangements for all types of disabilities (not just physical ones) so if you want to race go-karts, just give Overdrive a call!

Great Sand Dunes National Park
Colorado
Want to take in one of Colorado’s most unique wonders? Some campsites and a few specially built wheelchairs are available at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Call the visitor center for more details!

Adaptive Sports Center
Crested Butte, CO
At the Adaptive Sports Center, they make it easy to Canoe, Kayak, Raft, do Challenge Course, Cycle (including downhill mountain biking) and more in one of the most beautiful places in the world – Crested Butte.

Denver Botanic Gardens
Denver, CO
You don’t have to be plant-curious to enjoy the Denver Botanic Gardens. It’s the perfect place to stroll and roll, read a book, enjoy a cup of coffee, catch a concert, or appreciate the art of bonsai.

Outdoor Buddies
Westcliffe, CO
Initially founded to help patients get active after spinal cord injuries, Outdoor Buddies is the organization for the outdoorsman or outdoorswoman in your life. So if you’re into hunting, fishing, boating, or camping, check out Outdoor Buddies.

Of course, we have lots of great museums, restaurants, and breweries for all. What about a helicopter ride? Or taking a ride in a side-by-side Polaris UTV? What are your thoughts? Do you have any places or things you’d like to share? If so, let us know in the comments below!

^ This is a cool list that tells you what things are accessible around Colorado. I'd like to find similar articles from other states and countries. ^
