16 Patriotic Movies

From Suggest.com:
"16 Most patriotic Movies For 4th Of July"

- The Patriot:
You can't get much more patriotic than THE 'Patriot'. In this movie Mel Gibson's character, Benjamin, is a former war hero who has become a peaceful farmer. The actions of the British force his hand to become the leader of a Colonial Militia group, giving you a good idea of what the colonies went through to earn our Independence on the 4th of July.

- National Treasure:
The Founding Fathers of our country have hidden away a treasure that Nic Cage is searching for, but so are a group of bad guys. The founding fathers left a trail of clues, the last of which... is on the back of the Declaration of Independence.

- Top Gun:
Fighter jets, especially the F-14, are an American classic, and it's fun to watch Tom Cruise show off his piloting skills (just in the movie, of course). This is a great military movie about fighter pilots in the Navy.

-Born On the 4th of July:
Tom Cruise yet again in a film that is a bit more investigative of what it means to be a Veteran, based on the life story of Ron Kovic who was paralyzed in Vietnam. A good watch if you're looking for more than just pure American patriotism, and want some social commentary as well.

- Team America: World Police:
"America: F*** Yeah!" This parody film by the creators of 'South Park' will have you laughing at the caricature of America as they take on terrorism in the world.

- Captain America:
Captain America is the superhero upholding the ideals of our entire nation in the Marvel universe. If you prefer superhero movies, then "Captain America" is a good way to represent the red, white, and blue this fourth of july. Follow-ups like "The Avengers" or "Winter Soldier" that feature Captain America have some potential as 4th of July movies too.

- Saving Private Ryan:
Saving Private Ryan is a great American war movie. After storming the beach at Normandy, some officers realize that a classic American family has lost two out of their three sons, and so a team is sent in search of the third to try to bring him home to his family.

-Independence Day:
Independence Day sees the world stand up to an alien invasion on none other than 4th of July. The world has to stand together to earn their independence from the invaders much the same way America did back in the 1700s.

- Apollo 13:
A nod to the days when American space exploration was at it's prime after a very patriotic push, "Apollo 13" is an exciting film that documents the misfortune of the crew of the Apollo 13 space flight. The American public has their attention on space flight again as the astronauts and the ground crew work quickly to try to find a way to bring them back from space alive.

- Air Force One:
Harrison Ford plays the President of the US in this action movie that sees Air Force One, the president's private jet, hijacked by terrorists. Fortunately, the President is ex-military, and so he works to fight the terrorists from within the plane.

- Patton:
If a military general standing in front of a giant American flag isn't patriotic, then I don't know what is. See the life of famous tank commander Patton through his World War II involvement in this movie in his name.

- United 93:
This movie is a great demonstration of what US citizens are capable of. When multiple flights were hijacked on 9/11, one flight's passengers were able to fight back forcing the plane to crash in a field rather than into a highly populated city. This movie documents their heroism and is patriotic in a bit of a non-traditional way.

- Rocky IV:
This classic boxing flick fits cold-war themes perfectly, pitting the US against the Soviet Union. Rocky goes into the Russian mainland to fight their biggest and best 'superman' boxer to avenge the death of his trainee.

- Forrest Gump:
Forrest Gump is not on the surface the most patriotic film around, but his adventures bring him through a lot of important historical moments in American history that make it great if you're looking for a great story along with a health dose of America.

- 1776:
This musical, based on a Broadway play, documents the efforts that our founding fathers went through to convince the political leaders of that time to agree on independence and stand together in order to have a chance to fight off the British. The movie is very historically accurate with much of the dialogue coming from actual written documents.

- John Adams:
This HBO mini-series documents our second president, "John Adams," and his role in establishing the United States as an independent country. The series starts with the Boston Massacre and ends with his death on none other than July 4th, 1826, 50 years after the first 'independence day' was held as the Declaration of Independence was signed.

^ I have seen all of these movies and agree with this list. ^
