From USA Today:
"Megyn Kelly vs. Jane Fonda: The scratching continues"
For those Americans who love a catfight, especially among famous women, Monday was Round 2 between Jane Fonda and Megyn Kelly. As before, this feud has more to do with plastic surgery than politics. On Monday, it was Kelly's turn to swipe back at Fonda: On NBC's Megyn Kelly Today, she said she's not going to take any lectures from the woman long loathed by America's political right wing. "And now, a word on Jane Fonda, who appears to be fixated on an exchange I had with her months ago on this show," Kelly opened. She declared she had "no regrets" about asking Fonda a question about the plastic surgery work she's had over the years." I gave her the chance to empower other women, young and old, on a subject which she purports to know well, and she rejected it. That’s OK. But I have no regrets about the question. Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate. After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage." All this started in September when Fonda, 80, went on Kelly's show, accompanied by Robert Redford, 81, to talk about their new film, Our Souls at Night. It was Kelly's third day of her new show after years as host of her popular Kelly File on Fox News. Kelly, 47, asked Fonda how she has "aged beautifully" and her openness about the "work" she has had done. Fonda appeared incredulous and gave Kelly a long stare. "We really want to talk about that now?" she replied, as Redford gave an awkward laugh. Fonda tried to steer the conversation back to the movie. In later appearances elsewhere, and in interviews with entertainment reporters, Fonda said she was "a little bit" shocked by Kelly's plastic-surgery question, saying it was a "weird thing" to bring up at that moment." Seemed like the wrong time and place to ask that question,” she told Entertainment Tonight Canada. And Fonda kept up the criticism when reporters continued to ask about it. Kelly said nothing about Fonda's remarks at first because, she said, "my general philosophy is what other people think of me is none of my business." But when Fonda continued to push a "poor-me routine," most recently in appearances on NBC, Kelly was irked. On Monday, her publicist sent reporters a comprehensive list, with video clips, of instances when Fonda discussed her plastic surgery, including an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. "Fonda was on to promote a film about aging," Kelly told viewers. "For years she has spoken openly about her joy in giving a cultural face to older women. Well, the truth is most older women look nothing like Fonda. And if Fonda really wants to have an honest discussion about older women's cultural face, then her plastic surgery is tough to ignore." Kelly said that a movie star promoting a film should not expect an interviewer to just "discern that this subject (of plastic surgery) was suddenly off-limits." She also echoed others' complaints about Fonda, including her criticism of the military during the Vietnam War, her nickname of "Hanoi Jane" thanks to her anti-war radio broadcasts and her infamous posing on an anti-aircraft gun of the sort used to shoot down American pilots." Even she had to apologize years later for that gun picture — but not for the rest of it," Kelly said. "By the way, she still says she's not proud of America. So, the moral indignation is a little much. She put her plastic surgery out there. She said she wanted to discuss the plight of older women in America. And honestly, she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive."
^ I had never seen Megyn Kelly or her show before, but did once I heard about this. I have no respect for Jane Fonda and never have. She has done many things throughout her life that she has just tried to whitewash away instead of taking responsibility for, apologizing for and work to make sure to not make the same mistakes again. There is no reason for Fonda to feel "holier than thou" and above talking about her plastic surgery or her political activities. People like to pretend that there is a separation between their personal and professional life and there isn't - especially when you are an actor/actress. I've heard a bunch of uneducated people come to Fonda's defense, but their responses don't hold-up when put under the littlest of scrutiny. Jane Fonda has shown time and again that she is not a supporter of the US Military. She likes to put down the country and those that protect it even when that country has given her more opportunities than any other in the world. She continues to show she is ungrateful for what she has and how she looks and likes to take that out on others. ^
