Who knew that my Family would have
such a connection to the World Trade Center in New York City?
(My Dad took this picture in 1970 of
the building of the World Trade Center.)
It started when my Dad went to New
York City in 1970 and took a picture of the WTC being built.
Then from 1996-2000 my Mom had to go
down to New York City every other month (to visit the Regional Office.) She
always took me on those trips. I would go to the WTC with her every day and
while she worked I explored the 2 Towers.
I would wait in the TKTS Line inside
the WTC and get discounted Broadway tickets for us. We would then meet up for
lunch and I would tell her which show we were going to see that night.
On September 8, 2001 I went with my
College Roommate down to New York City. We stopped at the WTC and he wanted to
go up to the Observation Deck (he had never been up before.) I had been there
before and since it was lunchtime and we only had enough money to either go
into the WTC or have lunch I told him that we should go have lunch since “We
can go to the WTC any time.”
On September 11, 2001 none of my
Family was in the WTC, but I did know some of the people who worked with my Mom
(after making 24 trips over 4 years visiting them.)
My Mom worked in Washington DC and my
Dad worked in the Pentagon on 9/11 so we do have some direct experience with
the attacks.
