This Monday is Patriots’ or Patriot’s
Day in Massachusetts and Maine.
It remembers the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April
19, 1775 during the American Revolution (the “Shot Heard Around the World.”)
I had never heard of Patriots’ Day until I went to College in
Massachusetts.
Maine only celebrates it because it was part of the Massachusetts
Bay Colony and then the Commonwealth/State of Massachusetts until the Missouri
Compromise in 1820.
The Boston Marathon is always held on Patriots’ Day.
This year is the 10th Anniversary of the Boston
Marathon Bombing in which 3 People died and 281 were wounded in the Terrorist
Attack.
Note: Patriot Day is a National Holiday which remembers the
September 11, 2001 Attacks.
