100: RCAF

 

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) turns 100 years old today (April 1, 1924.)

The RCAF traces its history to the Canadian Air Force, which was formed in 1920.

The Canadian Air Force was granted Royal Sanction in 1924 by King George V.

Its role is to "provide the Canadian Forces with relevant, responsive and effective airpower".

The RCAF is one of three Environmental Commands within the Unified Canadian Armed Forces.

The RCAF has engaged in the Following:

Second World War: Battle of Britain, Battle of the Atlantic, Battle of the St. Lawrence, European Bombing Campaign and the Western Front.

Korean War

Gulf War:  Operation Friction and Operation Deliberate Force

Kosovo War: Operation Echo

War in Afghanistan

Intervention in Libya:  Operation Unified Protector and Operation Mobile

Military intervention against ISIL: Operation Impact

As of 2024, the Royal Canadian Air Force consists of 12,074 Regular Force and 1,969 Primary Reserve Personnel, supported by 1,518 Civilians, and operates 258 manned aircraft and nine unmanned aerial vehicles.

Lieutenant-General Eric Kenny is the current Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Chief of the Air Force Staff.

Its Headquarters is at the National Defense Headquarters, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

L'Aviation canadienne a reçu la sanction royale en 1924 par le roi George V.

Son rôle est de « fournir aux Forces canadiennes une puissance aérienne pertinente, réactive et efficace ».

L'ARC est l'un des trois commandements environnementaux des Forces armées canadiennes unifiées.

L’ARC s’est engagée dans les activités suivantes :

Seconde Guerre mondiale : bataille d'Angleterre, bataille de l'Atlantique, bataille du Saint-Laurent, campagne de bombardement européenne et front occidental.

Guerre de Corée

Guerre du Golfe : opération Friction et opération Deliberate Force

Guerre du Kosovo : opération Echo

Guerre en Afghanistan

Intervention en Libye : opération Unified Protector et opération Mobile

Intervention militaire contre l'EIIL : opération Impact

En 2024, l'Aviation royale canadienne comptait 12 074 membres de la Force régulière et 1 969 membres de la Première réserve, appuyés par 1 518 civils, et exploitait 258 avions pilotés et neuf véhicules aériens sans pilote.

Le lieutenant-général Eric Kenny est l'actuel commandant de l'Aviation royale canadienne et chef d'état-major de la Force aérienne.

Son quartier général se trouve au Quartier général de la Défense nationale, à Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
