Valid Passport Visas

From UNIAN:
"Ambassador: Canada issues multiple-entry visas for Ukrainians for 10 years"

"We have already introduced these multiple-entry visas for 10 years. We are also trying to increase the proportion of those who receive these long-term visas for a period of validity of their passport," Waschuk told an UNIAN correspondent. He explained that when a travelling passport is valid for 10 years, it is possible to obtain a visa for this period. "If the passport is valid for five years, one can get a visa for five years," he said. "We has already been implementing these arrangements, and we hope that more applicants will be able to take this advantage," the diplomat said.

^ It makes sense that Canada (or any country) issues a visa up to the validity an country's passport. I know you can carry both a new passport and an expired passport with a current visa for some countries, but that's a hassle. Countries should issue 10 year passports (5 for children) instead of 5 year passports for adults. Having 5 year passports makes travelling more time-consuming especially when you factor that most countries require you to have 6 months validity left on your passport to enter. Just an FYI: a Ukrainian passport (international not internal) is valid for 10 years. ^
