Easing Georgians

From UNIAN:
"TASS: Russia to ease visa regime for Georgian citizens"

The Russian Foreign Ministry claims Russia will ease the visa regime for Georgian citizens from December 23 and does not rule out adopting a visa-free regime between the two countries in the future, according to Russian news agency TASS.  "In the context of continuing process of normalization of Russian-Georgian relations and in the interests of stimulating positive tendencies between our countries, business, work, study and humanitarian visas of any type will be issued for Georgian citizens starting from December 23, 2015, as well as private visas, regardless of relation between a person who is inviting and a person who is invited," the foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, TASS wrote."The Russian side is firm about making further steps aimed at easing conditions for communication between citizens of the two countries and does not rule out the introduction of a visa-free regime on the basis of reciprocity," the foreign ministry added.

^ Georgia, like the Ukraine, has been dealing with Russian occupation of its territory. I have great respect on how Georgia has handled itself over the years (modernizing itself while also dealing with the Russians) in the same way I do the Ukraine. After the last Georgian-Russian War the Russians went on a witch-hunt across their country and deported many ethnic Georgians. The Georgians should more restraint and didn't do the same to the ethnic Russians living in their country. Russo-Georgian relations got so bad that neither country wanted to have diplomatic relations with the other and so Switzerland took over. Slowly, the two countries have worked to repair their ties (again despite Russia occupying parts of Georgia.) In the end if Russia and Georgia can improve their ties and eventually bring back visa-free travel it will show how great the Georgians are in that they respect themselves, their culture, language and history as well as treating Russia with respect even when Russia doesn't give it any. ^
