- During the Vietnam War (1965-1973) the US Government announced the numbers and names of their soldiers that were killed or wounded on a daily basis. Those who had died were buried with full Military honors throughout the US. Those that were wounded were treated in hospitals until their release.
- During the Soviet-Afghanistan War (1979-1989) the Soviet Government did not allow any mention of the number of Soviet soldiers dead or wounded. Their dead bodies were returned and buried in secret and their families were made to keep quiet. The wounded soldiers had their names and birthdays changed and kept in hospitals far from the cities. It wasn't until the USSR collapsed in 1991 that the Soviet citizens (and the world) learned that between 13,833–26,000 Soviet soldiers were killed (includes those MIA) and 53,753 Soviet soldiers were wounded.
- During the current Russian War in Donbas, Ukraine (2014-Present) the Russian Government does not allow any mention of the number of Russian soldiers dead or wounded. Their dead bodies are returned and buried in secret and their families are made to keep quiet. The wounded soldiers have their names and birthdays changed and kept in hospitals far from cities. The Government is even passing a new law to make it illegal for Russian soldiers to use social media while fighting (especially in Ukraine since Putin still claims there are no Russian troops fighting there.) An investigative report made from April 6, 2014 to March 10, 2015 estimated that 500 Russian soldiers were killed in Donbas, Ukraine and were secretly buried in the village cemetery in Vybuty near Pskov, Russia. Once the report became public the constant burials at the cemetery stopped immediately. It is believed the Russian Government has simply moved the burials to other cemeteries throughout Russia.
