"EU Withdrawal Bill officially becomes law"

The government's flagship Brexit legislation has officially become law, Speaker John Bercow has announced. Mr Bercow told MPs the EU Withdrawal Bill had received royal assent - meaning the Queen has agreed to make it into an Act of Parliament. The legislation enables EU law to be transferred into UK law in an attempt to ensure a smooth Brexit. It was subject to fierce debate as it passed through Parliament, with many attempts to change its wording. This culminated in a series of defeats for the government in the House of Lords - but ministers secured the necessary agreement for the legislation to clear the Commons last week. In the House of Commons, the government was defeated once, in December, over giving Parliament a "meaningful vote" on the final Brexit deal. The EU Withdrawal Act, as it is now known, will also repeal the 1972 European Communities Act, which took Britain into the EU and meant that European law took precedence over laws passed in the UK Parliament. The government said that in the coming weeks it would begin using the powers in the new law. Brexit Secretary David Davis said it was a "landmark moment" in the Brexit process. "We will now begin the work of preparing our statute book, using the provisions in this Act, to ensure we are ready for any scenario, giving people and businesses the certainty they need," he added.

^ It is amazing that the British Parliament were able to agree on anything regarding Brexit and pass the Great Repeal Law. Brexit has caused chaos and turmoil throughout the UK and it's territories with all the back-and-forth political fighting and disruptions to everyday British society. Hopefully now the British can start getting all the other major (and minor) issues relating to Brexit resolved before March 2019. ^
