Barcelona Not Barthelona

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

The next time you hear a wanna-be Hipster pronounce Barcelona as “Barthelona” with the Spanish Lisp let them know they aren’t correct.

Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, uses Catalan and in Catalan they don’t use the Spanish Lisp and so pronounce Barcelona as “Barcelona.”

Spanish is a Secondary Language in Catalonia and so only Spanish Speakers use the Spanish Lisp and say “Barthelona.”

I have long disliked those wanna-be “Cool” People who don’t really speak Spanish act as though they do and correct others when they say Barcelona and not Barthelona.

I don’t speak Spanish and don’t pretend I do.
