NORAD is going to track Santa again this year. Many people think the US and Canadian Military (that are part of NORAD) get something out of it, but it is done by volunteers and started in the 1950s when an ad in the local newspaper accidently used NORAD's phone number for kids to talk to Santa (it was at the start of the Cold War and yet the soldiers saw a need and continued to answer calls from children and then expanded it to what it is today.) The site is in: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Japanese so it is no longer solely geared towards American or Canadian children. I use the site every year and it is pretty cool.
