(German SS Men about to start the Selection Process -
deciding who will be Gassed right away and who will become Slave Labor- of
Hungarian Jews at Auschwitz between May-July 1944. This is part of the
Auschwitz Album the German SS took themselves.)
79 years ago today (May 22, 1944) All SS men at the Auschwitz
Death Camp in German-Occupied Poland were ordered to sign the following
statement:
1) I am aware and have been informed today that I will be
punished by death if I misuse Jewish property of any kind.
2) I must maintain absolute secrecy about all measures
carried out during the evacuation of the Jews, also among my Comrades.
3) I will devote my entire person and power to the rapid and
smooth implementation of these measures.
Such statements were attached to the personal files of SS
Men. This was undoubtedly related to the numerous cases of corruption and theft
of property of Jews deported from Hungary.
Note: From May 15 -July 9, 1944: 437,000 Hungarian Jewish Men, Women and
Children were deported to Auschwitz where 80% of them were murdered in the Gas
Chamber within hours of arriving (including all Babies and Children under 16,
all those over 60 and the Disabled.)
