NORAD Santa

People keep asking me where they can see NORAD tracking Santa. The website address is:

http://www.noradsanta.org/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmaing8%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D249547

It will start in about 14 hours. I think this is a great tradition and program. It started in 1955 when a newspaper gave the wrong phone number for kids to call and speak to Santa (they printed NORAD's phone number instead.) The US and Canadian military make up NORAD and they could have easily brushed the wrong numbers aside (especially because it was during the Cold War and could have been considered a Soviet threat) but instead they took the calls and decided to keep doing it every year and they use volunteers and no taxpayer money. It is a fun way for the US/Canadian militaries to give a little something to children and for the children to learn about the role of the US/Canadian militaries and how they protect us (and Santa) everyday. The fact that the website is now in: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and two Asian languages (I think they are Japanese and Korean, but am not sure) shows that they want to spread the good cheer to children around the world. They are also on Twitter and Facebook. Each year, the NORAD Tracks Santa Web Site receives nearly nine million unique visitors from more than 200 countries and territories around the world. Volunteers receive more than 12,000 e-mails and more than 70,000 calls to the NORAD Tracks Santa hotline from children around the globe. No matter what you think of the US or the military you can't say anything bad about what they are doing every December 24th with tracking Santa.
