TV License Fees

Many people in North America do not know about TV license fees (since they are mostly in Europe, Asia and Africa.) I did some research on different sites and found the cost (per year, per household) for different countries. I have converted the local currencies into US Dollars.

Albania = $7.66
Austria = $291.70-$361.80 (depends on the state)
Belgium = $195.52 (in French and German areas only)
Bosnia = $47.04
Croatia = $130.67
Czech Republic = $82.33
Denmark = $396.46
Finland = $303.35
France = $151.55
French Overseas Departments = $96.70
Germany = $267.07
Greece = $67.33
Iceland = $252.04
Ireland = $208.83 (free for those 70 or older)
Italy = $138.37
Macedonia = $74.41
Malta = $44.91
Montenegro = $54.84
Norway = $406.04
Poland = $67.13
Romania = $15.17
Slovakia = $54.85
Slovenia = $172.41
Serbia = $60.71
Sweden = $281.97
Switzerland = $410.25
United Kingdom = $220.15 (free for those 75 years or older)
Israel = $106.87
Japan = $163.82
Korea = $26.89
Pakistan = $3.56
Singapore = $79.88
Ghana = $0.38
Mauritius = $39.09
Namibia = $30.05
South Africa = $33.18

Here are the countries that used to have TV license fees, but have since abolished them:

Australia (1974)
Beligium (2001 in Dutch part only)
Cyprus (1990s)
Gibraltar (2006)
Hungary (2002)
India (1977)
Malaysia (1999)
Netherlands (2000)
New Zealand (1999)
Portugal (1992)

Here are the countries that have never had TV licene fees:

Andora
Estonia
Liechtenstein
Luxembourg
Monaco
Russia
Canada
United States
China
Hong Kong
Iran
Vietnam
Philippines
Nigeria

^ I don't think there is a need for TV license fees. They may have been neccesary back in the 1950s-1970s when TV was brand new, but with advertisements and government funds the need has disappeared. Now it is just a way for governments to make more money. ^
