A Friend of mine (an Ethnic
Ukrainian I met while studying in Yaroslavl, Russia the second time) sent me
these: a 100 Russian Ruble Bill and a 100 Ukrainian Hryvnia Bill.
She was living under Russian
Occupation in her Ukrainian City and was forced by the Russian Occupation Forces
to use the Russian Ruble (along with the Russian Language, etc.) Any mention of
Ukraine or anything Ukrainian (the Ukrainian Hryvnia, the Ukrainian Language,
etc.) would get you sent to a Russian Torture Center and then a Russian Infiltration
Camp either in Russian-Occupied Ukraine or in Russia.
After seeing the Russian
Occupiers beat, rape and kill so many innocent Ukrainian Men, Women and
Children my Friend decided to flee and make it to Ukrainian-Territory. It took
her a long time and was very dangerous, but she eventually made it back to
Ukrainian-Held Land where she was once again able to use the Ukrainian Hryvnia
as well as the Ukrainian Language -
without fear of being tortured or killed.
Currency is more than what we use
to buy things.
It is also a symbol of Freedom (like
the Ukrainian Hryvnia) or Oppression (like the Russian Ruble.)
Note: 100 Russian Rubles = $1.02
US Dollars.
100 Ukrainian Hryvnia = $0.02 US Dollars.
