Honoring Vietnam Vets

From US Veterans Magazine:
"Remembering Vietnam – Veterans Day Celebration And Event To Be Held At The National Archives"

The National Archives and National Archives Foundation today announced that former Secretary of Defense, U.S. Senator and decorated Vietnam veteran Chuck Hagel will speak at the National Archives. It will take place on Nov. 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. as part of a week long Veterans Day celebration.  Hosted by the National Archives and the National Archives Foundation, the celebration will honor Vietnam veterans and their families and encourage visitors to explore the Remembering Vietnam exhibition at the National Archives Museum before it closes in January.  As a proud partner of the Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration program, the National Archives will distribute pins for Vietnam veterans and their families. The program will include a panel discussion about what veteran support looks like in America today. “I’m honored to address the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War on such an important day in the building that holds America’s history,” said Chuck Hagel. “These veterans deserve to have their story told and the National Archives is helping to do that.”  Following the program in the McGowan Theater, veterans and their families will be invited for a tour of the museum, including an in-depth look at the Remembering Vietnam exhibit. In addition to the Nov. 14 program, the National Archives Foundation is partnering with the North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association to display four Vietnam-era helicopters on the front lawn of the National Archives Building from Nov. 9-16. This display will be open to the public and visitors will be permitted to explore inside.  “As a Vietnam veteran myself, I am extremely proud of the way in which this exhibit tells the story of the Vietnam War,” said Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero. “This celebration is an opportunity for the Archives to honor those who have served and to ensure that as many individuals as possible have the opportunity to learn from this important exhibit before it closes.”
^ It's important to remember the sacrifices that the American men and women made in Vietnam. The War divided the nation in the 1960s and '70s and many soldiers and vets were wrongfully discriminated against (politicians create and run the wars not the soldiers.) It has been 45 years since the last US combat solider left Vietnam and so this official celebration and remembrance is long over-due. ^
