In 2023 (50 years later) the US issued
24,021,257 Passports to US Citizens and US Nationals (out of a Total Population
of 330 Million People.)
Of course, US Citizens and US
Nations did not need a US Passport to travel to or from: Canada, Mexico or the
Caribbean by Land, Sea or Air until 2007 – meaning for 231 years there was no
need for the vast majority of Americans to get a Passport unless they went to
South America, Europe, Asia, Africa or Australia.
There are also 3 Million Passport
Cards issued to US Citizens and US Nationals
- as of 2023.
(You can you a US Passport Card
to Travel to Canada or Mexico by Land or Sea, but not by Air.)
Note: From 1810 until 1873 (63
years) only 130,360 Passports were issued to US Citizens and US Nationals.
From 1877-1909 (32 years) only 369,844
Passports were issued to US Citizens and US Nationals.
