One thing I miss having is Lahmacun (Armenian Pizza.)
I first had it when I was a Kid.
My Great-Uncle was Armenian (his
Parents left Turkey -The Ottoman Empire – for the United States right before he
was born because of the Anti-Armenian Violence there and he lost his Aunts, Uncles,
Grandparents, Cousins, etc. during Turkey’s 1915-1917 Armenian Genocide.)
He went to an Armenian Orthodox
Christian Church in the US and a Woman there made and sold Lahmacun. My
Great-Aunt gave me some when I would come visit her and I loved it.
My Great-Aunt continued to buy
them from the Woman from the when she married my Great-Uncle and continued even
after my Great-Uncle died. She would always buy me some and send them to me
when I was in High School, at College and living in Virginia and working in DC.
I even had some Lahmacun when I lived
in Russia the 2 times.
In 2008 the Armenian Woman died
and so my Mom started making Lahmacun using a Recipe from my Great-Uncle Ed’s
Mother (who died in 1956.) She would always send some up to my Grandparents and
my Great-Aunt.
The last time I had Lahmacun was
in 2014 before my Mom passed away.
