I am rewatching the Polish Film “Chce się żyć” (“Life Feels
Good.”
It tells the story of Mateusz Rosiński who has Cerebral Palsy
in Poland and his life from the 1980s to 2000s.
His Parents are told Mateusz won’t be able to speak, walk or do
anything and they should just send him away to a State-Controlled Institution
(during Communism in Poland.)
The Parents keep him in their Apartment with their other Children
instead.
It is only years later when his Father dies and his Mother is
too old to care for him alone that he goes to an Institution – where he is
treated well, but not given much hope until a certain Volunteer comes and sees
he is mentally aware of things even if he can’t speak.
It is based on a True Story.
It is the Polish Version of “My Left Foot.”
