“Gov. Chris Sununu decides against run for reelection”

Gov. Chris Sununu has decided he will not run for governor in 2024. The governor said in a letter to supporters that he came to his decision after chatting with his wife and children and “much consideration.” “This was no easy decision as I truly love serving as governor,” Sununu wrote in the letter. “Public service should never be a career, and the time is right for another Republican to lead our great state.”

Sununu’s decision comes several weeks after another big announcement, when he said in early June he would not run for president in 2024, citing the growing field of candidates, former President Donald Trump’s significant lead in the polls and what he called the “need for a candid voice.”

Despite declining to seek the White House, Sununu has said he hopes to have a national voice in politics and being the governor of the state with the first-in-the-nation presidential primary will help give him that platform. He previously took a long look at a run for U.S. Senate in 2022, but decided against challenging incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan, who won reelection. He won his first term as governor in 2016 and won three more two-year terms, joining former Gov. John Lynch as the only New Hampshire governors to win four terms in office.

Three Republicans previously expressed interest in seeking the corner office in 2024, including former U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut and former New Hampshire Senate President Chuck Morse. Sununu narrowly defeated Edelblut and others in the Republican primary for governor in 2016.

On the Democratic side, Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington and Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig have both announced their campaigns.

^ He is a good Governor (he has been in Office since 2017 and his Dad was also Governor from 1983-1989) and Politician doing what was right for the People and not just his Party.

He should have run for President in 2024 (since there are no good Candidates from any Party running.)

As of right now there are no good Candidates from any Party to replace him as Governor. ^
