RFE/RL

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) is a United States Government funded Organization that broadcasts and reports news, information, and analysis to countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Caucasus, and the Middle East where it says that "the free flow of information is either banned by government authorities or not fully developed".

Started in 1949, during the Cold War, it aimed to promote non-Communist News and Stories into Communist Countries.

Today, it promotes the United States and the Western Ideals of Democracy into Countries that don’t have Democracy (like Russian, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iran, etc.) or where Democracy is so little understood (like Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, etc.)

RFE/RL broadcasts in 27 Languages to 23 Countries. The Organization has been Headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, since 1995, and has 21 Local Bureaus with over 500 Core Staff and 1,300 Stringers and Freelancers in countries throughout their broadcast region. In addition, it has 700 employees at its Headquarters and Corporate Office in Washington, D.C.

Current Service is made in: English, Albanian, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bashkir, Bosnian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Chechen, Crimean Tatar, Dari, Georgian, Hungarian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Pashto, Persian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Tajik, Tatar, Turkmen, Ukrainian and Uzbek.

Most of the Presenters are Native-Born Speakers of the Languages and have had to flee their Territory for various reasons (ie. Crackdowns on Democracy, Dictatorships, War, etc.)

40 Million People (including 11 Million Russians) regularly tune into RFE/RL via Social Media, Radio, Television and the Internet – even though it is against the laws in many countries, like Russia, Iran, etc. – to learn a different side of the news that they are receiving from their State-Controlled Media.

Note: A Russian Citizen can be sent to a Forced Labor Penal Colony for 15 years for listening to RFE/RL and an Iranian Citizen can be put to death for listening.
